Allstate Insurance has made a change in their practices in North Carolina, and roughly 45,000 in that state have been informed their homeowners insurance policies will not be renewed unless they also buy an automobile policy (private or commercial) from the same company by December 15th.

Tracy Owens, an Allstate spokesperson representing the insurance companys Atlanta-based Southeast Regional Office explained that it was an intensive review of the insurers book of North Carolina business that prompted the decision.

Insurance claims filed by auto accident victims in New York City include losses for medical expenses, lost wages and other costs that are more than twice the average for the rest of the state, according to a new study from the Insurance Research Council (IRC).

The losses have shot up 70 percent over the past 10 years—outpacing a 49 percent increase in medical care inflation during the same period—according to the study, which attributes the growth to questionable claims filing and rampant overbilling by medical providers.
