Complaints made to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) about payment protection insurance (PPI) have tailed off by more than half, figures showed today.

The watchdog said that it received 19,259 new consumer complaints about the issue between July and September.

This compared with 56,025 new complaints during the previous quarter, between April and June.

During the latest quarter, 92% of complaints were resolved in favour of the consumer, compared with just over half (55%) between April and June.

The fall in PPI complaints meant that in total, the FOS received 50,645 complaints generally between July and September, a sharp drop on 81,301 in the previous quarter.

If you’re planning to buy your car and choosing a cheap car insurance policy, you’ll be better off with a first-hand car. Chances are, if you end up buying a pre-owned car, your insurance quotes will be skyrocketing.

This year has witnessed a higher number of official complaints lodged against used car dealers than any other trade. The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) revealed that the year 2011 saw more than 56,000 UK nationals complaining to its consumer arm, that is, Consumer Direct. There are regulations in place to ensure that used car dealers try to sell stock that meets a certain standard. Hiding faults and deliberately selling inferior goods does happen through irresponsible dealers and most of these faults will then become apparent in the first three months usage.

When buying second hand cars, you need to glean the right advice from independent sources. Independent vehicle inspections can be a one of the best ways of attaining useful impartial advice. Many companies offer independent checks including industry stalwarts the RAC and the AA.

PIP insurance fraud is a big problem in the state of Florida. It is no secret that the governor of the state, Rick Scott wants more done to address the issue. One county in Florida called Hillsborough County has made great strides on this issue.

The problem with auto insurance fraud is that you cannot combat it unless you create and enforce reforms. The reasons that Florida is targeted by these criminals are that the laws are relaxed and that accidents are very easy to fake.

The governor hopes to change the states Personal Injury Protection Law in 2012 but it may be a hard sell in 2012 because it is an election year.

Alfa Insurance Co has announced a change to their business practices in Alabama, which comes on the heels of last months rate increase for homeowners insurance. The change? The insurer, which is currently the second-largest property insurer in the state, is now requiring homeowners to bundle their auto insurance or find a different provider for their homeowners policies.

Its often advised that bundling of this sort is a good way to reduce what you pay for auto insurance, but being forced to bundle in order to retain an existing policy seems extreme.

Alfas spokesperson, Jeff Helms, explained to the press that the change is meant to streamline the insurance companys book of business and make better customer service possible.
